It is moving sideways at a constant speed, and it is falling downward under gravity. These two motions do not affect each other. Once you accept that, the formulas stop being a list to memorize and start being two simple stories you already know.

[Normal paragraph] Horizontally, nothing is pushing or pulling the object once it leaves your hand. No air resistance in these exam questions, no friction. That means horizontal velocity stays exactly the same from launch to landing. This is just the basic speed equals distance over time relationship you already know.

[Normal paragraph] Vertically, gravity is constantly pulling the object down. This is the exact same motion as something dropped straight down or thrown straight up. You already know how to handle this from your equations of motion topic. The only new step is realizing it is happening independently of the horizontal motion.

Start with the vertical story alone: how long does it take to fall 20 metres? Once you have that time, switch to the horizontal story: multiply that time by the constant 15 metres per second. That is the entire question. No combined formula needed, just two stories told one after the other.
